The world of Web 2.0 is going to be an interesting transition for a majority of those who are marketing a business, product or service on the Internet. Many of the marketers who I talk to online are not interested in being social with anyone in business, in fact, most won’t even pick up the phone or message someone through a social community.
Fear won’t get you anywhere in this industry… and those who are afraid to be successful with fall prey to the statistic that states 97 out of every 100 people who try to become and Internet marketer… eventually fail or quit.
For those who are going to make the transition to Web 2.0, there are a few things you will need to know before getting started.
First, understand that social marketing is about building a solid reputation as well as relationships. A friendship builder is going to be successful in the world of Web 2.0 and reputation will proceed them when their name comes up in marketing circles, call and forums.
Next, it is important that you find a community where you can build a good profile. Your profile should include a current, professional looking photo, truthful information about yourself, and a theme that represents a professional, organized business person who projects an aire of dignity and confidence. Smiling never hurts either… angry, stern, hard pictures are not the image you want to send of yourself to others.
One of the most important parts of your profile are the “about me” section. Done correctly, your “about me” section can drive interested traffic to your capture system or web site, making your job of prospecting much easier. HINT: for an example of a solid “about me” for marketing visit myspace.com/socialmarketingsuccess
Now, once your profile is done, begin adding friends! Now you are on your way to having free or low cost web presence that will draw attention and bring people to you. You might consider a few of these tools to help you.
Friend Blaster Pro (Google: friend blaster pro) … for MySpace.

My recommendation to any Inernet marketer, new or struggling… before you join a business opportunity and spend money on something you don’t know anything about, get a coach/mentor. If you are have been failing or struggling with business online for any period of time, you need to stop and rethink things. Having a coach will save you countless hours and money that you may have spent to no avail.
